About This Year’s Event

WHO BENEFITS

The Evening of Empowerment event is held exclusively for Collin County crime survivors.

WHAT IS THE Evening of Empowerment EVENT?

This event was created by the Collin County Crime Victims Council to help crime survivors by providing access to resources necessary to continue to heal so they can move from victim to survivor.

With childcare provided, attendees will have the opportunity to relax and enjoy themselves. As they wander through the event, they can chat with legal representatives, connect with mental health and counseling resources, get a haircut, pick up household supplies such as cleaning products and diapers, enjoy a nice meal and shop for themselves and/or their children – FOR FREE. This event is made possible by the generosity of people like YOU in our community.

WHY

We help women RISE! With 35% of our clients impacted by crime (such as domestic violence, child abuse, rape, assault and even murder), we see the devastating physical, financial and emotional impact of crime on women and children every day. We hope to give survivors a heavy dose of community love, sisterhood and access to resources they need to heal.

In EXPOW terms, we like to think of this program as a giant bear hug from the community. You know, the kind of hug that lifts you from the ground when you see your bestie and they run to you and squeeze soooo tightly. Although you can barely breathe, you still muster a smile from ear to ear. Your spirits are instantly lifted and no matter what your facing, it seems more possible than it did before. That’s the feeling we want these women and children to have. We hope that with all of the resources there, that’s exactly the way they will feel, full of hope and possibility.

So when the Collin County Crime Victims Council asked us to partner with them on this event, we said YES because we knew we could count on YOU, our generous community, to help.
